Farm Safety 2023

On May 30, 2023, the Lakedell Ag Society hosted a farm safety day on our Ag Society Grounds. We welcomed 282 students as well as their teachers, principals and support staff from the Lakedell Elementary School, Falun Elementary School, and Pipestone Elementary School.  We thank the schools for coming out and bringing the kids!

We had 13 stations and, although the rotation was a bit stressful, all the class groups got to see and learn hands on.

We would like to thank the following volunteers for taking the day off work or out of the fields to come and teach such valuable lessons to our youth:

  • Michel Deveau from Battle River Power for coming out with their power safety board which is always a hit.
  • Sheryl Stone for leading an interactive Hazard Hunt.
  • Tim Belec for Helmet Safety Presentation
  • Dustin Grams for Horse Safety
  • Sam Klimec from Cline Agro Services and Keys Ag Kubota for providing a lawn mower and SUV to learn about safety on these machines.
  • Kyley Denschikoff for Cattle Safety and Blind Spots
  • Martin Deerline Wetaskiwin for bringing out a tractor and baler for the kids to learn about
  • Catherine Chubbs, Community Health Promotion Facilitator for the County of Wetaskiwin, for coming out and talking about Sun Safety. Thank you Chris.
  • Wayne Benson from the South Pigeon Lake Fire Department.  The kids love learning about fire safety, talking to Wayne and seeing the big truck!
  • Animal Assisted Therapy Alberta – Boss Co. came and talked on Dog Safety, and they brought their canine partners!
  • Todd Pearson discussed auger and grain cart safety and had a fun demo on grain/bin safety.
  • Gary Schmidt came out and did a chemical look alike and chemical safety discussion.
  • Les Boen showed the kids and support staff what is left on your hands after washing them with a Glow Germ Hand Washing demo.

We would also like to thank Susann Stone for MCing the day and keeping us on track!

Behind the scenes we had Bonnie Wilson, Gladys Sundquist, Colette Fiveland, Blaine Stone, Mike Wollin, Dave Watt, Sharon Wulff and Janet Stone prepping and feeding everyone lunch and snacks during the day.

We’d like to offer a huge shout out to Stitch’n Magician for getting nearly 300 of the safety orange tee shirts printed up for us on super short notice!

The day could not have been possible without our sponsors:

Safety Stars:  Brentridge Ford Sales Ltd and the Wombold Family of Wetaskiwin Alberta.

Safety Leaders: Drever Agencies and Richardson Pioneer

Safety Partners:  Martin Deerline, Wetaskiwin Coop and Triumph for supplying the BBQ.

The entire day was lead by Janet Stone and we could not thank her enough!
